FIBA World Cup qualifying groups confirmed

The field has been set for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers, with the eight teams coming from this summer’s Pre-Qualifiers drawn into the eight qualifying groups in Munich on Thursday morning.

The European Qualifiers will be played by a total of 32 teams, with the other 24 teams coming from this month’s FIBA EuroBasket and having been drawn into their respective groups at a Draw Ceremony in Guangzhou, China, back in May.

The groups are as follows:

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers will be played across six windows, beginning on November 23, and concluding on February 25, 2019. The top 12 European teams will advance to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019, in China.

The six windows are broken into two rounds. Following the First Round, which is played across the first three windows, the top 24 teams will continue their quest to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Meanwhile, the bottom team from each group will begin playing in the FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Pre-Qualifiers Second Round.

The FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Pre-Qualifiers First Round will take place during the same first three windows of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers and will be contested by nine teams. Those nine teams were drawn into three groups, also on Thursday.

The groups are as follows:

The winning team from each of the three groups, plus the best second-placed team, will each earn a spot in the FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Pre-Qualifiers Second Round together with the bottom-placed teams from each of the eight groups of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers.
