EuroLeague sides Zalgiris and Anadolu Efes have announced a joint off-court collaboration.

The two sides released a press release which reads as follows:

Defined as the country of basketball, Lithuania’s Zalgiris Kaunas club and Turkey’s Anadolu Efes Sports Club, which accomplishes pilot projects to spread and endear basketball across Turkey, these two clubs have decided to act together and become fraternal clubs with the purpose of serving basketball.

On March 21, 2017, on the World Down Syndrome Day, two teenagers from the Turkish Association of Down Syndrome went to the Zalgiris Kaunas away-game with the Anadolu Efes basketball team. A synergy was created between these two teens and the Lithuanian Sportsmen diagnosed with Down Syndrome during the celebration of “World Down Syndrome Day” that took place at the half-time of the game. This synergy has turned into a protocol for joint work in certain fields between the two clubs.

The synergy of both clubs, the harmony between their fans that has evolved into a friendship as well as their capability to have fun together at the tribunes while watching basketball within the spirit of sports culture have played important roles in creating this protocol.

Built within the frame of both teams’ mission to spread basketball and EuroLeague to larger masses in their home countries, the cooperation model includes social projects, sports tourism, promotional and marketing activities and events to be organized for the development of the infrastructure of sports activities.

Along with supporting the improvement of basketball between the two countries, the articles of the protocol leads a way for numerous opportunities such as the development of new joint work opportunities and breaking grounds in the sports marketing area.
