Fabien Causeur inks two-year deal with Real Madrid

Real Madrid added experience and deep shooting range to its roster by signing guard Fabien Causeur to a two-year deal, the club announced Tuesday.

Causeur (1.95 meters, 30 years old) arrives from Brose Bamberg, where he averaged 9.9 points on 62.5% two-point shooting and 3.2 rebounds in 29 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season.

He helped Bamberg win the German League title with 11.9 points in 35 games and earned MVP honors for the finals. He also lifted the German Cup with Bamberg.

Causeur joined Bamberg from Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz, where he posted personal EuroLeague highs of 10.3 points on 39.5% three-point shooting in the 2015-16 season.

He started the first 20 games of the season, but due to a back injury had to miss the last four rounds of the Top 16 and the playoffs, while only appearing for three minutes during the Final Four. Causeur spent four seasons with Baskonia after debuting in the EuroLeague with Cholet Basket of his native France in the 2010-11 season.

He has averaged 8.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists in his 122-game EuroLeague career. Causeur played three seasons in total for Cholet – including two in the EuroCup – after staring his professional career with Le Havre in his native France, where he played for four years.

He has also suited up for the French national team in the past at both the Olympic Games and the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
