Milos Teodosic is likely to head to the NBA

It has been the answer that CSKA Moscow fans and players have been dreading – but at the same time – have been expecting.

Milos Teodosic has said that staying with the Muscovites next season is unlikely and that his next destination is almost certainly going to be in the NBA.

The Serbian international though is unsure where he will go next but has said that he will not go to an NBA side that will merely keep him and his extraordinary talents on the bench.

“I will not stay with CSKA Moscow almost for sure, but I don’t know yet where I will continue my career”  Teodosic said, as reported by Novosti. “Going to the NBA is my wish but when I will know where, I will say that.”

Milos Teodosic’s future was a hot topic of discussion at the EuroLeague Final Four in Istanbul in May.

Since joining CSKA from Olympiacos in 2011, Teodosic, who won the EuroLeague MVP award in 2010 has firmly established himself as one of the premier combo guards in the EuroLeague, appearing in every Final Four since 2012 with the Russian side and leading them to the title in 2016. He has also won six straight VTB League crowns since his arrival.

Last season, Teodosic averaged a career-high 16.1 points a game along with 6.8 assists and 2.1 rebounds. His efforts were thwarted by his old club Olympiacos in the semi-finals of the Final Four, in May.

The 30-year-old’s season ended on a high note as he helped CSKA win their sixth straight VTB League title, beating Khimki in the finals.

Teodosic is known as one of the best players outside of the NBA, but if he does play in the league next season, it remains unclear what role he will play. It is rumoured that the Chicago Bulls are interested but it might be difficult to see decent minutes alongside Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade.

The main contenders to land Teodosic though are the Utah Jazz, which suits him better. Jazz coach Quin Snyder has struggled to find a consistent back-up point guard behind George Hill, but a veteran like Teodosic might be able to give him more balance at the guard spot and the rotations might be easier, especially as the Serbian can play both guard spots.

Teodosic is an underrated three-point shooter and ultra competitive, so he should find the NBA style easy to come by in time.

However, with CSKA now aware of the situation, having offered Teodosic a multi-year contract worth €12million when the VTB League season ended, they can now look to rebuild with point guard Leo Westermann and Will Cyburn stellar additions to the side.
