Anthony Randolph looks to strengthen Slovenia’s EuroBasket bid

Following the naturalisation of Real Madrid forward Anthony Randolph, Slovenia have found a potent new weapon leading into this summer’s Eurobasket.

Randolph was announced as part of Slovenia’s preliminary squad for Eurobasket this summer late last week and it looks certain that the 27-year-old will suit up alongside the Dragic brothers, Goran and Zoran as well as Randolph’s Real Madrid team-mate Luka Doncic in Helsinki this summer where Slovenia will be up against the hosts Finland, Poland, France, Greece and Iceland.

“I’m glad I have got a chance to play for Slovenia,” Randolph said.

“This represents a major new challenge in my career. I will try my best to justify the confidence which has been shown in me from the Basketball Federation of Slovenia and coach Igor Kokoskov.”

“Anthony Randolph is a great asset to our team as he plays in a position where we have a smaller selection of players,” Slovenian Basketball Federation president Matej Erjavec added.

“We thank the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, which enabled for Randolph to play in a Slovenian jersey. I’m sure Randolph will justify our confidence. We want a long-term and successful co-operation.”

Since gaining independence in 1992, Slovenia have not been on the podium in major competitions. A fourth placed finish at Eurobasket 2009 in Poland was their best finish. They also finished fifth at Eurobasket 2013, an event that they hosted.
