EuroBasket Women 2017 round up (day 1)

An enthralling first eight games of action at Eurobasket Women is in the books and champions crashed to a loss in perhaps the most surprising result of the opening day.

Holders Serbia fell 69-60 to Greece in Group C with France nearly heading in the same direction but eventually settled for a 70-68 win over debutants Slovenia.

The hosts didn’t get off to the start that they wanted as Czech Republic lost 59-47 to Ukraine in Group A as Alina Iagupova went for 21 points or the victors.

Tournament favourites Spain though got off to a comfortable start though as they dispatched of Hungary 62-48.

Montenegro, usually strong in major competition were edged 66-64 by Belgium in Group D with Russia easing past Latvia 71-59 in the other pool game.

Italy and Turkey were easy winners in their respective Group B games as the Italians beat Belarus 80-60 and the Turks were 69-58 victors over the Slovak Republic.
