Head coach Sito Alonso has signed a two-year deal with Barcelona with an option of a third, the club revealed today.
Alonso comes to Catalonia from Baskonia, whom he led to the EuroLeague and Liga Endesa Playoffs, but falling short at the quarter-final and semi-finals, respectively.
The 41-year-old replaces Georgios Bartzokas, who parted ways with Barcelona at the end of last season due a poor campaign which saw Barca fail to reach the EuroLeague Playoffs and were also eliminated in the first round of the Liga Endesa post-season. This despite numerous injuries that were ultimately the true cause of their drop.

Alonso’s departure from Baskonia could pave the way for recently retired but untested Pablo Prigioni to take over at the Vitoria-based club.
