Nicholas Batum and Tony Parker become business partners

Charlotte Hornets swingman Nicholas Batum has become a shareholder in French side ASVEL, which now links him up with the club’s owner and former France team-mate Tony Parker.

Batum will have a role as ASVEL’s director of basketball operations with the two NBA stars already laying out a five-year plan for the club who have stated that they want to compete in next season’s EuroCup competition.

The five-year plan also includes becoming a regular in the exclusive EuroLeague competition as well as being dominant in the French Pro A league.

“ASVEL is a historic club in France,” Batum said in a statement.

“Tony has developed a real project and associated multiple actions related to the club. Beyond the friendship that binds us, our mutual trust, I believe in the project of TP and I want to bring my stone to this edifice.”

Batum signed a five-year deal with the Hornets last summer, which was estimated at around $120 million. His involvement can enhance the financial strength of the club significantly enough to build a roster that might transform ASVEL to a major EuroCup title contender in years to come.

“We are already working on a five-year development plan for ASVEL as a whole and Nicolas wished to have an operational role as Director of Basketball Operations of the ASVEL club, Lyon Basket and the Tony Parker academy,” Parker explained.

“It is a role that suits him perfectly and he is already in action and in this direction within my group.”
