Romania aiming to naturalise Scottie Wilbekin

In a bid to be competitive at this summer’s Eurobasket, co-hosts Romania are looking to naturalise Darussafaka Dogus’ Scottie Wilbekin.

The Romanian Federation is currently in talks with Wilbekin and also has Giordan Watson, Malcolm Armstead and Cameron Long on its list, according to Romanian outlet “Sinteza Zilei”.

Romania have already decided that they will have a naturalised American and have interests at the point guard spot – according to FIBA rules only one naturalised player can be used by each nationtal team – and Wilbekin is their highest profile target.

Romania will go into this summer’s Eurobasket as the lowest ranked country at 129th in the Nike FIBA world rankings. They will face off against reigning European champions Spain, Croatia, Czech Republic, Montenegro and Hungary.
