Anthony Bennett: It’s still a learning process

Former number one NBA Draft pick, Anthony Bennett had his break out game with Fenerbahce on Sunday but admits that he still has a long way to go.

On his domestic league debut, Bennett led Fenerbahce with 16 points in his side’s 98-89 home win over Usak in the Turkish Basketball League. It was the first time in his professional career that he top scored in a game, which shows vast improvement and a will to succeed, but personal adjustments to his game still need to be made.

“It was a good game,” Bennett said after Fenerbahce’s win.

“I’m still in a learning process. I have great teammates and coaching staff. They are all supporting me. I’m trying to do my job on the court. Having the trust of my coach, I tried to do what I supposed to do on both sides of the floor. I’m still learning our sets at practices.”

The general pace of the game is still Bennett’s big question mark for now, but that comes from getting fully settled and integrated with the team. Fenerbahce coach Zeljko Obradovic is known to get the best out of his big stars and the big Canadian arrived in Istanbul looking for an opportunity.

Originally a player that came into the professional ranks in 2013 with a big reputation but instead got chucked around NBA teams constantly leaving his rep in tatters. Obradovic has to use his coaching prowess and tag team with Bennett’s work ethic to get him back on the right path.

In the 98-89 victory over 15th placed Usak, Bennett, a career 39 percent from the field in the NBA shot 50 percent [4/8 FG] in his Turkish League bow, including a three-pointer and he made all seven of his free throws.
