British Basketball League 2016-17 round up (week 17)

Worcester Wolves produced one of the best weekend performances of the season after claiming two impressive wins on the road.

Paul James’ side stunned the recent Cup champions, Newcastle Eagles after coming from behind to win 103-112 at Sport Central.

Three-time Cup Final MVP Rahmon Fletcher finished with 34 points and 13 assists as the Eagles dropped their third league game.

“It was a tremendous performance – we’ve worked extremely hard in the week and knew we needed to get something out of this weekend,” said James.

“I was getting a little nervous, the clock didn’t seem to move for ages, but we showed a lot of character to keep scoring at the end and get the win.”

The Wolves then took down London Lions in a similarly dominant third quarter display en route to a 71-100 victory at the Copper Box Arena.

Plymouth Raiders also enjoyed a double-winning weekend after coming from 20 points down to beat Bristol Flyers 98-103 in overtime before seeing off Essex Leopards 64-93 to reach the BBL Trophy Semi-Finals.

Plymouth Raiders’ Peter Hooley went for 33 points in his side’s convincing win over NBL Division 1 side Essex Leopards in the BBL Trophy.

Daryl Corletto netted two late triples to force overtime on Friday night before his side closed out the win to end the Flyers’ six-game win streak.

On Sunday, Peter Hooley netted nine 3-pointers in a 33-point display to help the Raiders reach the Last Four by overcoming the Division 1 side.

Leicester Riders returned to the top of the BBL Championship after recording a convincing 95-69 triumph over Cheshire Phoenix with Pierre Hampton contributing 18 points and nine rebounds.

Also on Saturday, Surrey Scorchers picked up another dramatic victory as they edged out Leeds Force 80-77 behind 27 points from Quincy Taylor.

Last week’s Cup runners-up Glasgow Rocks endured a mixed weekend, but managed to bounce back from a 70-67 loss to London Lions with a 91-73 success at home to Manchester Giants.

Kieron Achara went 10-of-11 from the floor in his 24-point outing as the Rocks returned to winning ways and improved to 11-4.
