Liga Endesa 2016-17 round up (week 17)

Real Madrid are now the sole leaders of the Liga Endesa after week 17 as they came from behind to down Joventut Badalona while Barcelona slipped up against Tenerife.

Round 17 also saw Andorra claim their first Copa del Rey place since 1995 as they were comfortable winners at home against Real Betis.

Real Madrid though improved to 13-3 in the league with an 81-78 success on the road to Joventut Badalona. However, the Catalan side will feel that this game slipped out of their grasp, enjoying a 16-point cushion at one stage but eventually allowing the reigning league champions back into matters.

Felipe Reyes led Madrid with 18 points.

Barcelona are now off the pace as they slumped to a disappointing 71-60 defeat to Tenerife.

Giorgos Boris led Tenerife with 16 points and 11 rebounds as they forced Barca into 16 turnovers and made Tyrese Rice’s life a nightmare with the nippy guard going 1/9 from the field for three points.

Andorra’s 95-70 win at home against Real Betis was enough to seal a Copa del Rey spot and a much deserved one. The Andorrans join Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Tenerife, Baskonia, Gran Canaria and
Unicaja Malaga in the eight-team tournament which is traditionally held in February.
