Gintaras KrapikasGintaras Krapikas decided it was the time for him to step down as a head coach of Zalgiris after a crushing 55-89 defeat against Barcelona in Euroleague yesterday. Lithuanian coach has been in charge of the club since autumn 2008 after Rimantas Grigas resigned as a head coach.

Darius Maskoliunas who was an assistant coach of Krapikas will take charge of the team until another coach is found. Though Zalgiris is known for not spending much on their coaches which suggests that Maskoliunas might not be just a temporary solution.

Zalgiris has been in a poor form this season in Euroleague winning only one out of eigth games. Seven losses in a row put Lithuanian runners-up at the bottom of Group A. Despite that the team still has chances to reach Top 16 if they manage to win two remaining games against Cibona and Fenerbahce Ulker.

The club has been playing better in domestic leagues having lost only twice – once against CSKA Moscow in VTB United League and once against arch rivals Lietuvos Rytas in Baltic Basketball League.
