Ty Jerome scored 28 points and rookie Cameron Boozer delivered the go-ahead jumper with 20 seconds remaining as the Memphis Grizzlies erased a 12-point deficit in the final 3:47 to beat the Golden State Warriors 111-108 on Friday night at Chase Center.
Memphis trailed 106-94 after De’Anthony Melton’s three-pointer with 3:47 left, but the Warriors went scoreless from the field the rest of the way. The Grizzlies closed on a 17-0 run to improve to 2-0, while Golden State dropped to 0-2.
Boozer finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds, shooting 6-for-13 from the field and making all nine of his free throws. His decisive jumper put Memphis ahead late after the Warriors had squandered their advantage. Stephen Curry and Brandin Podziemski both missed three-point attempts before Boozer’s shot gave the Grizzlies the lead.
Jerome continued his strong start to the season after scoring a career-high 45 points in Wednesday’s season-opening win over Utah. His three-pointer with 1:24 remaining cut Golden State’s lead to 106-105 and helped set up Memphis’ late surge.
Jaylen Wells added 17 points for the Grizzlies, making four of his seven attempts from beyond the arc. Zach Edey contributed eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, while also blocking a Curry three-point attempt during the closing stretch.
Curry led Golden State with 24 points, although he shot 5-for-15 from the field and 3-for-10 from three-point range. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg recorded 18 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in his home debut. Podziemski also scored 18 points, while Melton finished with 10.
The Warriors had controlled much of the second half, outscoring Memphis 34-24 in the third quarter to take a 90-84 lead into the final period. However, they could not find another field goal after Melton’s three-pointer late in the fourth.
The game also featured several heated exchanges, including double-technicals involving Isaiah Stewart and Draymond Green before halftime, and Jerome and Lendeborg in the third quarter.
Lendeborg, the 11th overall pick, finished with a double-double.
Memphis will visit the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, while Golden State travels to face the Phoenix Suns on Saturday.
