The Golden State Warriors have waived guard Miles Kelly despite his strong preseason performances, including an impressive shooting display from beyond the arc.

Golden State decided to open a roster spot for Tyler Burton, who joined the team on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract. The agreement could potentially be converted into a two-way or minimum NBA contract.

Burton, a 6-foot-7 wing who went undrafted out of Villanova following a five-year college career, averaged 10.8 points and 4.2 rebounds across 10 appearances with the Memphis Grizzlies last season.

The signing gives the Warriors additional depth on the wing, where they are expected to be without Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody during the early part of the season.

Golden State has several options in its backcourt but needs more players capable of filling minutes at the forward positions.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s departure comes after he showed promising shooting ability during the preseason.

The guard scored six points in just six minutes against the Los Angeles Lakers, making both of his three-point attempts.

Across three preseason appearances, Kelly connected on eight of his 15 shots from beyond the arc, demonstrating his ability to contribute as a perimeter shooter.

However, his performances were not enough to secure a place on Golden State’s roster.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr did not use Kelly during Saturday’s 111-106 preseason victory over the Sacramento Kings, despite the team playing its second game in as many nights and missing seven regular rotation players.

Golden State subsequently waived Kelly on Sunday, choosing to add Burton instead.
