New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns has expressed his disappointment after learning that the franchise has decided to postpone contract extension negotiations until later in the season.

The Knicks announced the decision late last week, confirming that discussions with players eligible for new deals would be put on hold.

Speaking Sunday, Towns admitted that he had not expected the organization to take that approach.

“It was news to me,” said Towns. “Very disappointed, to say the least. Let’s state the obvious: It’s a business, but there is business on the court for us to handle.”

The veteran center is one of four Knicks players eligible for extensions, alongside Josh Hart, Miles McBride and Tyler Kolek.

While the decision affects all four players, Towns has been the most outspoken about his frustration with the situation.

According to league sources, New York’s proposed extension for Towns has been valued at approximately $200 million. However, the big man is eligible to receive a maximum four-year extension worth $276 million.

The difference between those figures highlights the financial considerations surrounding negotiations between the two sides.

Despite his disappointment, Towns acknowledged the business aspect of the NBA while emphasizing that the Knicks still have responsibilities on the court.

The situation creates uncertainty about his long-term future with New York, particularly as the franchise attempts to keep its championship-winning roster together.
