The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Miami Heat 125-124 in a high-scoring preseason game at Kaseya Center on Saturday, October 10. Antonio Reeves scored the decisive basket with 2.3 seconds remaining as Minnesota improved to 2-1 in the preseason, handing Miami its first home defeat of the exhibition schedule.
Both teams were missing several prominent players. Minnesota played without Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jonathan Kuminga and Jaden McDaniels, while Miami was without Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, Tim Hardaway Jr., Klay Thompson and Bobby Portis.
With the stars sidelined, the game offered opportunities for younger players and reserves to take on larger roles. Minnesota led 24-23 after the opening quarter and extended its advantage by scoring 36 points in the second period, taking a 60-56 lead into halftime.
The Timberwolves continued to build their cushion in the third quarter, outscoring Miami 31-28 to enter the final period ahead 91-84. The Heat responded with a 40-point fourth quarter, turning the contest into a close finish.
Miami moved in front during the closing stages and appeared poised to secure the win after Vladislav Goldin scored to put the Heat ahead 124-123 with 14.8 seconds remaining. Reeves answered with a driving floating jump shot with just 2.3 seconds left, giving Minnesota the one-point victory.
Bones Hyland led the Timberwolves with 23 points, shooting 6-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 from three-point range. He also made all six of his free throws and recorded four assists and three steals.
Terrence Shannon Jr. added 19 points, six rebounds and four assists, making eight of his 16 field-goal attempts and three of six shots from beyond the arc. Drew Timme contributed 22 points off the bench on 7-for-9 shooting, while KJ Martin finished with 12 points. Joan Beringer recorded 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.

Zyon Pullin added 22 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Isaiah Evans scored nine points, making three three-pointers.
Miami received 22 points and nine assists from Ryan Conwell, who also recorded two steals without committing a turnover. Goldin delivered 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting, adding six rebounds and two assists.
Nikola Jovic finished with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Simone Fontecchio and Pelle Larsson scored 14 points apiece. Myron Gardner contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals off the bench.
Minnesota shot 47% from the field and 41% from three-point range, while Miami finished at 46% overall and 47% from beyond the arc. The Timberwolves made 29 of 33 free throws, compared with Miami’s 22-for-27 mark.
