Before the first ever EuroLeague SuperCup Wade Baldwin IV from Fenerbahce used the media practice to praise this move of the EuroLeague organization.
“Obviously, it’s a great preparation for the season. This is different than EuroLeague normally does in their back-to-backs, having it on Friday, Saturday. It’s very demanding. Very, very tough, long travel for the teams, but it’s good that the league is expanding. This is my eighth season here, and seeing the progression of EuroLeague is good. I want to continue to expand the brand, obviously, and this is the first opportunity to try to do that”, said Baldwin after the team practice.
It almost the beginning of the season and players are still adopting to each other.
“In this phase, we have to become a team first. Obviously, there’s been no adversity. Everything is a bit of a honeymoon phase right now, but we’re getting together as a team. We’re getting a system, and we’ll see how the season progresses. We have some new guys in the team. I mean, you need to integrate guys and understand the system that we play, and that’s going to take time. I don’t think teams really become teams until November, December. You have to go through your kinks. You have to go through a little bit of adversity. You have to go through some of the losses, and we’ll see how our season progresses”, Wade was honest about team development.
At the end of his interview with TalkBasket.net, Baldwin just said that on these kinds of tournaments you never know what will happen but of course he wants to win SuperCup with his team.
“We don’t know. This is the first one ever. We don’t know the atmosphere. We expect, obviously, there’s some high-level competition, right? I think Olympiacos had beat us last year in the Final Four. This is our first matchup in another EuroLeague setting. So you have some of those emotions from last year. And, again, we hope to raise the title. When you’re kind of watching, you’re competing for everything, you’re trying to win a championship, everything. It feels fun.”
