Smodis sidelined for season, could be done for good

ImageAs CSKA Moscow announced via their official website, Matjaz Smodis will be sidelined for at least until next year after specialists recommended a surgery to fix his back injury. But is that really the case or is there more into the story? TalkBasket probed the situation and discovered shocking facts.

TalkBasket's sources, already from the beginning of the Eurobasket in Poland, had told us that Matjaz Smodis will miss the entire 2009/10 season. Respecting the source's request not to reveal anything until the Eurobasket is over we withheld the information in order not to upset Slovenian efforts during the tournament.

But our source is now insisting that Matjaz Smodis is pretty much done, at least on the highest level, due to the horrifying state of his back. And this is probably the reason why no major Euroleague club moved to sign Smodis in the off-season when CSKA was trying to get rid of their highest earning players.

CSKA's coach, Pashutin is already looking a replacement for Smodis, with former Panellinios player Ivan Radenovic being a likely target.
