Jonas Kazlauskas has decided to step down as head coach of the Lithuanian national team after four years at the helm.

The departure, first reported on social media by Simas Baranauskas, comes after Lithuania finished a disappointing seventh at the Rio 2016 Olympic basketball tournament, as they were eliminated comfortably by Australia at the quarter-final stage.

Kazlauskas took over the coaching reigns from Kęstutis Kemzūra soon after the London Olympics in 2012 when Lithuania reached the quarter-finals. Since then, the 61-year-old has helped guide the Baltic nation to two Eurobasket silver medals and a fourth placed position at the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

Early favourites to replace Kazlauskas include Rimas Kurtinaitis and Sarunas Jasikevicius.
