Free agent center Andre Drummond has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million contract with the New York Knicks, according to ESPN.
The Knicks targeted Drummond because of his veteran experience, elite rebounding ability and playoff résumé, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The former Mount Vernon, New York standout fills an important need in New York’s frontcourt following the departure of Mitchell Robinson and is expected to serve as the primary backup to Karl-Anthony Towns.
Drummond reportedly drew interest from multiple teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, before choosing to sign with his hometown team on Friday.
The Knicks now have roughly $6.2 million remaining below the NBA’s second apron.
