Celine Dumerc to miss Rio Olympics

After capturing so much attention at London 2012, France’s Celine Dumerc will not be doing the same thing in Rio.

Dumerc has been ruled out of the Olympics, due to start this weekend with an ankle injury, the team confirmed today [Thursday].

The 34-year-old playmaker will be replaced by Amel Bouderra.

Dumerc suffered a left ankle injury during a Wednesday training session in Rio de Janeiro.

A later ultrasound and MRI exam were not conclusive, but it was obvious to team doctors that Dumerc would not be able to recover in time for the start of the basketball tournament for women, which tips off on Saturday.

She was set to become a two-time Olympian in Rio but won’t be able to help Les Bleues as they go up against hosts Brazil, Japan, Australia, Belarus and Turkey in Group A.
