Darko Planinic moves to Gran Canaria

Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas strengthened its frontcourt by signing big man Darko Planinic for the coming season.

Planinic (2.11 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz, which he helped to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four last season.

He averaged 3.1 points and 2 rebounds over 25 EuroLeague games in his second season in the competition. Planinic last played in the EuroCup two seasons ago with Buducnost VOLI Podgorica and averaged 10.1 points and 3.6 rebounds.

He made his EuroLeague debut with Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2012, but after just one season he moved to Croatia to play with Cibona Zagreb. Planinic started his career with Siroki and played there until December of 2012, when he joined Maccabi.

His trophy case includes the Bosnian, Montenegrin and Adriatic League titles and the Israeli Cup. Planinic is currently in Brazil where he will represent Croatia in the Olympic Games.
