Pacers weighing options with Kam Jones’ partial guarantee

Facing a partially guaranteed contract situation, Kam Jones could have an uncertain future with the Pacers, as Forbes contributor Tony East outlines.

With only 50% of his salary for next season guaranteed, one option East highlights is to delay the guarantee date from June 30 to July, which would allow Jones to suit up for Indiana’s Summer League team before a final call is made.

The 38th overall pick in last year’s draft, Jones didn’t debut until late December due to a back injury and has since been in and out of the rotation over the past few months.

While his contract technically runs through 2028/29, the final two seasons carry no guarantees.

East adds that Jones’ status may hinge on whether Indiana retains its top-four protected pick in the upcoming draft, given the team’s limited roster flexibility.

The Pacers could choose to keep him, or alternatively waive him and use the stretch provision to spread his 2026/27 cap hit across multiple seasons.
