Josh Wilcher will sign up with the Cheshire Phoenix

Cheshire Phoenix are thrilled to announce the acquisition of Josh Wilcher, with the playmaker the first signing of what will be a new look team for the 2016-17 BBL season.

The 5’10 Australian-born point guard is a dual UK/AUS passport holder and previously played for Plymouth University Raiders, where he averaged 14 points and seven assists per game during his time at the Pavilions.

Recently appointed Phoenix head coach Colin O’Reilly is pleased with his first signing and stated, “While building a young team, it was important that we also brought in experience to help the transition and Josh fits the bill for this.

“He is a very unselfish player which will help set the tone for us as far as moving the ball effectively offensively and communicating as a unit defensively is concerned.”

Wilcher is currently in Australia playing for Townsville Heat in the Australian State League and is averaging 16 points per game.

He’s looking forward to coming back to the UK and joining up with the new ‘Nix’ play-caller and his team.

“I am really excited by the opportunity to join Cheshire having played against them for a couple of seasons now,” said Wilcher.

“I have seen how passionate and supportive the fans are and I can’t wait to play for them.

“Speaking to Coach O’Reilly, he really seems like someone with a great vision for the club going forward and I’m very excited to be a part of it and I can’t wait to get started.”
