Chicago Bulls big man Zach Collins’ season officially came to an early end over the weekend after doctors determined that toe surgery was necessary, preventing him from returning to the court this year.
The injury marked another setback in what has been a difficult and injury-filled season for both Collins and the team.
According to Joe Cowley, Collins expressed regret to head coach Billy Donovan about how little he was able to contribute due to ongoing health issues.
The big man said he felt disappointed that injuries limited his ability to help the team the way he had planned entering the season.
“‘I just told him, ‘I’m sorry, man,’’’ Collins said. “‘I thought I had a lot more to give him this year. Unfortunately, between the wrist and the toe, I just didn’t have a chance to show it. ‘I thought I had a really good summer. I was really looking forward to helping the team.
“It’s been a frustrating year injury-wise as a whole for the team, but individually I knew I had more to give him and felt like the team would have been in a better spot had I not gone through all these injuries.’”
Collins appeared in only 10 games before being shut down, as multiple injuries prevented him from establishing any consistency throughout the season.
