Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry spoke candidly about his approach to stress, the NBA’s competition, and the All-Star Game during a press conference on Saturday. Curry emphasized the importance of “being able to set healthy boundaries around, you know, making sure your cup gets filled” and surrounding himself with “positive, uplifting people.”
The four-time NBA champion also shared thoughts for fans abroad, highlighting his film project: “I hope everybody gets to see it in Hong Kong, here in the States, all around the world. It’s for the whole family and… has very positive messages.” He reflected on his global fanbase, including Filipino supporters, saying, “I hope that I get to go back and see the fans out there for sure.”
Curry addressed league-wide concerns, noting the competitive balance in the NBA despite tanking controversies. “Even the teams that are in the play-in… we feel like there’s obviously a lot of competition. It’s something every year the NBA wants to address,” he said, stressing the league’s growth: “The league is in great place overall in terms of… skill level and global reach.”
Regarding the All-Star Game format, Curry suggested changes to improve competitiveness: “Shortening the game… that might be the only real suggestion I would have… Short and sweet is better.” He acknowledged the league’s adjustments to game day prep and fan experience, noting the benefits of “time-outs aren’t as long, the breaks in between games aren’t as long.”
Curry also discussed the Warriors’ playoff outlook following key injuries. “Jimmy [Butler] going down was a tough blow… If we can be healthy come March and April, hopefully get out of the play-in battle… We feel like we’re still a dangerous team,” he said, highlighting the importance of opportunity once seven-game series begin.
He reflected on his career motivation and longevity: “We’re all still chasing championships… That is the motivation… Offseasons are a grind to get ready for… I still enjoy it. I still have a love for the game.” Curry also emphasized the cultural significance of playing during Black History Month: “I’m glad it’s talked about more… how we get to use our voice and our platform to speak on things that matter.”
On international expansion, Curry shared his perspective on potential NBA games abroad: “I came from Santiago, Chile… Those are amazing experiences culturally… I’d love to travel around even more.” He hinted at exploring business opportunities after the season, stating, “I’m enjoying the free agency for sure… trying to figure out the right home and right partner.”
Curry’s press conference provided a comprehensive look at his mindset on health, competition, and his influence as a global ambassador for basketball. The 2026 NBA All-Star Game, hosted at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, will feature a USA vs. the World round-robin tournament, with Curry unable to play due to injury.
