Canada edge through, dream for the hosts however ends

Canada are through to the semi-finals of the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers but it was heartbreak for the hosts as the Philippines were eliminated by New Zealand.

The Canadians were made to work for their narrow 58-55 win over Senegal but finish their Manila adventure with a 2-0 record.

Senegal will feel hard done by but shooting a woeful 28 percent was their ultimate downfall as they now head to Thursday’s do-or-die clash with Turkey where the winner progresses.

But the dream for the Philippines is over as they were ousted 89-80 by New Zealand.

Despite numerous rallies by the hosts, the Tall Blacks withstood the pressure and remained composed to head into Thursday’s clash with France full of confidence.

Tai Webster led the New Zealand charge with 25 points.
