Newcastle Eagles re-sign popular American Rahmon Fletcher

British Basketball League side, the Newcastle Eagles have re-signed point guard Rahmon Fletcher for the new season.

This marks the third season that Fletcher will be donning the Eagles vest and the American is thrilled to be back.

“It feels good to be returning back to [Newcastle],” Fletcher said to the Chronicle.

“It’s very rare that Americans play on the same team for multiple years but I feel this isn’t a regular situation as this organisation is ideal for anybody that wants to play professional sports. After having two pretty good seasons here, things happen in threes. So I’m really looking forward to returning and to be honest this is the most excited I have been to play basketball in a long time.

“I’m ready to get back to work and the grind of the season and bring trophies back to [Newcastle] and I hope everyone is as excited as I am. I’m ready to see all the supporters and hear their cheers when we play.”

Fletcher has averaged 14.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game in his first two seasons with the club and was no doubt on Eagles coach Fabulous Flournoy’s main priorities to bring back. Standing at just 5’11”, Fletcher is lightening quick, with a consistent jump shot, but his main attribute is making the team better. He gets the team involved and is excellent at finding the open man.

“Fletch is a great start to our recruitment for this season,” Flournoy said. “While he has he shown his ability in the previous two years it is our view that we have only scraped the surface with him and that there is a lot more to come.

“We believe that with him leading a vibrant, athletic team the future is extremely bright.”
