Xavi Pascual and Barcelona part ways

Barcelona have mutually terminated the contract of coach Xavi Pascual effective immediately, the club announced Tuesday.

It is heavily speculated that Sarunas Jasikevicius will take over from Pascual in the coming weeks.

Pascual was Barcelona’s head coach since he replaced Dusko Ivanovic in February 2008. Prior to that, he had been an assistant and youth team coach dating back to 2004. Pascual led Barcelona to great success, including winning at least one major title in each of his first six full seasons as head coach.

He guided Barcelona to four Spanish League titles, three Spanish Copa del Rey trophies and the 2009-10 Euroleague crown.

Pascual became the first Spanish coach to win the Euroleague title in three decades and was chosen as the Alexander Gomelskiy Euroleague Coach of the Year at the end of the 2009-10 season. Apart from going all the way in 2010, Pascual also helped Barcelona advance to the Euroleague Final Four in 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

His coaching record in the Euroleague stands at an impressive 160-52 (75.47 percent).
