Nemanja Bjelica to miss Olympic Qualifiers

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Nemanja Bjelica will not represent Serbia at next month’s FIBA Olympic Qualifiers.

Bjelica, the 2015 Euroleague MVP had not fully recovered from his leg injury but has said that if Serbia qualify, and he is fully fit then he will travel to the Rio Olympics.

“I won’t play because of my injury”, Bjelica told Serbian outlet Zurnal.

“I know our team and I know that we have a lot of players who are ready to respond to the challenge that is before us.”

Bjelica though is confident that Serbia will make it to this summer’s Games and he is hopeful of making the trip.

“If I am healthy, of course,” he says. I am here and I am looking forward for it.”

Serbia are one of three hosts at the Olympic Qualifiers. They play Angola and Puerto Rico in Belgrade.
