Dante Exum to miss Rio 2016 for Australia

Utah Jazz and Australia point guard Dante Exum will not travel with the Boomers to the Rio 2016 Olympics, despite being cleared to participate in full contact activities.

Exum missed the entire NBA 2015-16 season with the Jazz due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament that he sustained while playing for Australia against Slovenia in August.

The 20-year-old Melbourne native has been cleared for training but has opted to continue his recovery with the Jazz as he prepares for the new NBA season.

Australia qualified for the 2016 Olympics with a series win over New Zealand in the soon-to-be defunct FIBA Oceania tournament that only features the aforementioned sides. The section of the FIBA zone will be merging with FIBA Asia in 2021.

The Boomers will play London 2012 gold-medallists USA, Venezuela, China and two additional qualifiers in Rio, this August.
