Bones Hyland has moved ahead of shooting guard Rob Dillingham in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ current rotation, at least for now, per reporting from Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
Head coach Chris Finch explained the decision by noting that the team needed to shake things up.
“We’re 24 games in, and I thought it was time to try something different,” Finch said, adding that Hyland had earned the opportunity through steady work.
“He’s been patient. He’s been playing really well in practice, doing everything we ask him to do. We need a spark there.”
Hyland, who returned to Minnesota on a one-year deal over the summer, capitalized on the expanded role Monday night against Phoenix.
In just 16 minutes, he delivered 14 points and three assists, giving the Timberwolves the kind of energetic bench boost Finch had been looking for.
