Steph Curry withdraws from USA Olympic contention

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has withdrawn his name from the USA men’s Olympic roster.

The Warriors public relations staff revealed Curry’s decision, complete with statement from the reigning league MVP on Twitter earlier this evening.

Since Curry’s last international venture where he won gold with the USA at the FIBA World Cup in Spain in 2014, he has led the Golden State Warriors to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances plus he has scooped back-to-back league MVP awards.

Curry averaged 23.8 points in the season after the World Cup as he led the Warriors to the NBA championship and then captured the scoring title by averaging 30.1 points a game this season, while leading Golden State to a second straight Finals showing.

The 28-year-old also hit an NBA-high 402 three-pointers including going 152 straight games with at least one made three.
