AS Monaco secured a vital EuroLeague road victory on Wednesday night, defeating Olympiacos Piraeus 92-87 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium to improve to 4-3 on the season.
The matchup served as a rematch of last year’s Final Four semifinal, and once again Monaco prevailed, this time led by Alpha Diallo’s career-high 27 points and a commanding double-double from Mike James.
Diallo played over 35 minutes and delivered one of his most complete performances in a Monaco jersey. He shot 8 of 9 on two-pointers and 3 of 4 from deep, adding three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
James, the EuroLeague’s all-time leading scorer, orchestrated the offense with 23 points and 10 assists, making 8 of 13 field goals while committing just three turnovers in 32 minutes. His leadership down the stretch ensured Monaco held off a late Olympiacos push.
Monaco’s balanced approach proved decisive after trailing by four in the opening quarter. The visitors outscored Olympiacos 27-22 in the third and 28-27 in the final period, controlling the tempo through solid half-court execution and defensive poise.
Nikola Mirotic added 23 points for Monaco, combining with James and Diallo to account for 73 of the team’s 92 points. Elie Okobo chipped in 10, and Daniel Theis scored nine on efficient interior shooting.
Olympiacos fell to 4-3 despite 23 points from Tyler Dorsey and 17 from Sasha Vezenkov. The Reds shot just 18.2% from three-point range, missing 18 of 22 attempts, which proved costly in the final minutes.
The win marked Monaco’s first away success since Round 3, following defeats to Virtus Bologna and Hapoel Tel Aviv. The result reaffirmed their status among the EuroLeague elite as they head into a quick turnaround for Round 8.
Monaco will host Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens on Friday, while Olympiacos looks to regroup at home against Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv.
