Utah Jazz forward Georges Niang has suffered a setback before the 2025–26 NBA season begins.

Marc J. Spears reported that Niang sustained a fourth metatarsal stress reaction in his left foot during offseason training and conditioning. The Jazz announced that he will be reevaluated in two weeks.

The injury comes just weeks after Niang returned to Utah in an offseason trade. On August 6, the Jazz reacquired the veteran forward from the Boston Celtics in exchange for RJ Luis Jr. and a trade exception, marking his second stint with the franchise.

Niang has been on the move frequently in recent months. He was first dealt from Cleveland to Atlanta in February, later sent to Boston in July, and ultimately shipped back to Salt Lake City.

The 32-year-old played 79 games last season, splitting time between Cleveland and Atlanta. He averaged 10.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc.

Known for his perimeter shooting and floor spacing, Niang was expected to bring veteran stability to Utah’s young roster. His absence could create early rotation adjustments for head coach Will Hardy as the team prepares for training camp.

The Jazz enter the new season with multiple new pieces, including draft picks Ace Bailey, Will Riley, Jamir Watkins, and John Tonje, along with veteran additions Kyle Anderson, Kevin Love, and Jusuf Nurkic.

Niang previously spent four seasons with the Jazz from 2017 to 2021, becoming a reliable contributor off the bench during multiple playoff runs.
