The Atlanta Hawks have added depth to their frontcourt, signing center Charles Bassey to an Exhibit 10 contract, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Bassey, 23, appeared in 36 games with the San Antonio Spurs last season. He averaged 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in just over 10 minutes per contest.
Originally drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2021, the big man spent one season in Philadelphia before joining San Antonio. Over four years, he has played in 113 career games and holds averages of 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and nearly one block per game.
Bassey has built his reputation on efficiency around the rim. He owns a career 63.1 percent field goal mark, highlighted by a 72.5 percent shooting clip during the 2023–24 season with the Spurs.
The Exhibit 10 structure provides the Hawks with roster flexibility. If waived before the season, Bassey could join the team’s G League affiliate while remaining eligible for a bonus.
Atlanta’s frontcourt already features Kristaps Porzingis, Onyeka Okongwu, and first-round pick Derik Queen. Bassey’s addition gives the Hawks another interior presence as training camp approaches.
During his time in San Antonio, the 6-foot-11 center showed flashes as a rim protector and rebounder. He averaged close to a block per game across his career and posted 5.5 rebounds per outing in 2022–23, his most productive season to date.
