The Boston Celtics continue to evaluate their options with guard Anfernee Simons. According to Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com, league executives believe Boston is “still very much willing to talk about Simons” in trade discussions.

The 26-year-old scorer was acquired in July as part of the Jrue Holiday deal but has remained on the market since. While his offensive production is well established, the Celtics face challenges in moving his $24 million expiring contract.

Simons is entering the final season of his four-year, $100 million deal. That structure could make him attractive as a short-term rental for a contender, but matching salary has limited Boston’s options.

The front office began the summer with a focus on shedding salary. With the roster already featuring a deep backcourt, the organization has little room to guarantee Simons significant minutes.

NBA insider Jake Fischer noted on The Stein Line that the Celtics are expected to keep him available through the February 5 trade deadline. The franchise has not gained traction on a deal but remains open to offers.

Simons averaged 19.3 points and 4.8 assists per game last season with the Trail Blazers. Over his career, he has posted 15.0 points and 3.3 assists while shooting 37.6% from three.

Despite those numbers, his playoff résumé is limited. He has appeared in 15 postseason games without a start, averaging 4.7 points mostly in reserve minutes.

One executive told Heavy.com that Simons ranks behind only Jaylen Brown as a scorer on Boston’s roster. However, the same source questioned how head coach Joe Mazzulla will adapt the team’s style following departures in the frontcourt.
