French forward Guerschon Yabusele believes the upcoming EuroBasket 2025 will showcase the highest level of international basketball. Speaking with Eurohoops, the New York Knicks player emphasized that the tournament stands apart from any other competition.
“It’s the most competitive competition in terms of pure basketball,” Yabusele said. “And especially this year, it’s going to be the best we’ve ever seen because every team is bringing its best players. Everybody is going there to try to win the gold. We’ll see some of the best basketball ever.”
EuroBasket 2025 will tip off on August 27 and run through September 14 across four host nations: Cyprus, Finland, Poland, and Latvia. Riga will stage the final phase, where the continent’s top national teams will battle for the title.
France enters Group D alongside Slovenia, Poland, Belgium, Israel, and Iceland. That sets up a potential early clash with Luka Doncic and Slovenia before tougher knockout tests later in the tournament.
Yabusele acknowledged the depth of talent across Europe, citing superstars such as Giannis Antetokounmpo with Greece and Nikola Jokic with Serbia. “Those are some of the best players in the world,” he said. “That’s why I think this is going to be one of the biggest competitions. It’s going to be tough, and in terms of basketball, one of the purest.”
The 29-year-old stressed that containing elite playmakers will be key to France’s chances. “They’re huge for their teams — not just scoring, but passing, playmaking. We’ll try to keep them low in scoring and assists. But at the end of the day, every team is dangerous. We just have to focus on ourselves, play our game, and whatever happens, happens.”
France is seeking its first EuroBasket title since 2013, when Tony Parker led them to victory. The team reached the 2022 final but lost to Spain and is now aiming to return to the top of European basketball with a roster featuring NBA and EuroLeague talent.
With multiple MVPs and All-Stars committed to playing, EuroBasket 2025 is shaping up as one of the deepest and most competitive editions in the tournament’s history.
