Spain and Slovenia banned from EuroBasket 2017

FIBA have banned the Spanish and Slovenian Federations from next year’s Eurobasket due to the two nations’ involvement in next season’s Eurocup.

It was announced last month by FIBA that they would ban any international nation if they chose to side with Euroleague Basketball over their Basketball Champions League concept. It is reported that similar warnings have been sent to Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Montengro and FYR of Macedonia.

The exclusion of Spain, the current Eurobasket champions by FIBA is a huge move by the Federation and with Lithuania also committing to the Euroleague model, risk danger of being banned.

Spain and Slovenia have until April 20 to reply.
