Greek Basket League round-up (week 25)

Panathinaikos- A.E.K. 78-71

OAKA stadium is the homecourt for both of the two Athens-based clubs but this time it was painted green in favor of Panathinaikos, so the typically home team got a difficult but important win overcoming their offensive deficit of the 3rd period. Williams was once again the best performer for them with 24 points, while Mavrokefalides keeps on impressing with his stats, this time scoring 16p. alongside 8 rebounds.

Apollon Patras- Olympiacos 72-77

Olympiacos underestimated Apollon especially after a +20 they had before halftime. They though the game was set and done but the home side started a counter attack that lasted an entire half, but right before the game goes to the edge, Spanoulis finished them off. “Kill Bill” had 15 points and 9 assists while for the defeated side Dillard scored 16.

A.G.O.Rethimno- Aris 83-88

AGOR is a very competitive team at home but the “Emperor” was very consistent when in was about scoring and they escaped Crete with the win. White was again dominant for the winners with 15 points and 13 rebounds, fighting for every possession under the baskets.

P.A.O.K.- Koroivos Amaliadas 92-78

PAOK had full control of the pace until half time, scoring 23 points on both periods ( 46-35), Koroivos looked to make the comeback after a great 3rd quarter offensively but PAOK soon returned to playing tough defense, scoring with easy and finally they locked the win behind Vassileiadis’ 20 points. Coach Soulis Markopoulos defeated the team his son Charis coaches and most likely, they sinked Koroivos to the A2 division.

Kolossos Rhodes- A.E.N.Kifissias 87-90

Huge win on the road for AENK in a high scoring game against Kolossos. Despite the visitors’ great first half, concluding with the score being 36-53, Kolossos slowly tried to make the comeback but they could not reach their goal for just one shot in the end. El- Amin was the MVP with 20 points for the winners while Larentzakis scored 20 points too for the Rhodians.

Lavrio G.S.- Trikala BC 75-80

Lavrio failed to beat Trikala in a back-n-forth match up where Brown performed really well, being the driving force for the visitors (28 points and 9 rebs). 32-44 was the half time score, by the end of the 3rd quarter Lavrio had reached within one, but  they lacked motive and could not complete the turnaround since they have already avoid relegation.

Arkadikos- Kavala B.C. 74-68

Arkadikos lives to fight another day to avoid the relegation as they beat Kavala, who on the other side is most likely going to play for the A2 division next year. The strong finish they had in the game was not enough to make them even look like a threat, and with Jones’ 19 points leading the way, as well as their good teamwork on defense, Arkadikos still had 33 points, as many as Trikala and will look to secure a spot to the next year’s Basket League.
