Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving has signed a new three-year contract worth $118.5 million, locking him in through the 2027–28 NBA season. NBA insider Marc Stein shared key details of the agreement on X.
According to Stein, the contract includes a player option for the third year, giving Irving flexibility to test free agency in 2027 if he chooses. The All-Star guard also secured a 15% trade kicker, which increases his salary in the event of a trade, and an advance payment provision ensuring half of his yearly salary is paid by October 1 each season.
Irving opted out of his $43 million player option for the 2025–26 season to sign this new agreement.
Despite tearing his ACL in February, the 33-year-old guard remains a centerpiece of the Mavericks’ plans. He is currently in rehabilitation and is expected to miss much if not all of the upcoming season, though the franchise has expressed confidence in his recovery and long-term impact.
Irving has been with Dallas since being acquired at the 2023 trade deadline and quickly became a vital part of the team’s offense. He helped lead the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals and earned a spot as an All-Star replacement in 2025 despite battling injuries.
During the 2024–25 season, he appeared in 50 games and averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists, providing efficient scoring and veteran leadership when on the court.
The Mavericks now move forward with Irving secured alongside Cooper Flagg, Anthony Davis, and Klay Thompson as they aim to contend in the Western Conference.
