The Detroit Pistons remain in active discussions for a potential sign-and-trade deal involving Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk, according to multiple reports.
Matt George of ABC10 Sacramento reported on Tuesday that the Kings are still open to finalizing a sign-and-trade with Detroit that would send Monk to the Eastern Conference. The deal reportedly remains on the table as free agency negotiations continue league-wide.
Monk, 27, is coming off a career-best campaign in 2024–25, averaging 17.2 points and 5.1 assists while playing primarily off the bench. He has become one of the most efficient sixth men in the league, shooting 44.7% from the field and 37.8% from beyond the arc.
The Kings, who finished 40–42 and failed to advance beyond the play-in tournament, are reportedly looking to retool their rotation. While Monk signed a four-year, $78 million contract with Sacramento last summer, he may now be viewed as a movable asset amid broader roster reshaping.
Detroit, fresh off a 44–38 season and a first-round playoff loss to the Knicks, is expected to continue building around Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, and Jalen Duren. Adding Monk would give the team a dynamic scoring threat to help space the floor and create offense in half-court sets.
George also noted the Kings remain “very engaged” in separate trade talks involving Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga. However, that deal is reportedly independent from any potential move involving Monk.
