Olimpia Milano announced the return of Giuseppe Poeta to their coaching staff as Lead Assistant. Poeta previously served as an assistant coach with the team from 2022 to 2024, helping secure back-to-back Italian league titles.
Last season marked Poeta’s first as a head coach, where he led Brescia to the Italian league finals after finishing the regular season in third place. His success there raised his profile, with reports linking him to several EuroLeague head coaching opportunities.
Ettore Messina, Milano’s head coach, expressed confidence in Poeta’s abilities. “As a club, we have agreed with the owners to entrust Peppe Poeta for the present and the future of our club,” Messina said. “With him, we feel like we brought back a person of high coaching and human skills.”
Poeta shared his thoughts on rejoining Milano. “I am happy to come back to such a prestigious team, a team that means a lot to me, proud and grateful for the trust that both Coach Ettore Messina and the owners are showing.”
Poeta had a long playing career across Italy and Spain. He debuted in Serie A with Teramo and played for clubs including Virtus Bologna, Baskonia, and Manresa. He also won the 2019 Italian Cup with Turin.
Poeta appeared in 120 games for the Italian national team. After retiring in 2022, he joined the national team’s coaching staff, participating in the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 Pre-Olympic tournament.
Under Messina’s leadership, Poeta had previously worked with Olimpia Milano and the national team during his playing career. His return adds experience and continuity to Milano’s coaching ranks.
Olimpia Milano finished 11th in the 2024-25 EuroLeague standings with a 17-17 record. The team aims to improve and return to the playoffs, where the top six clubs from the regular season qualify directly.
