Liga Endesa 2015-16 round up (week 23)

Laboral Kutxa were not able to maintain their grasp on a top three spot in the Liga Endesa as they were stunned 100-92 by an enthusiastic Sevilla side in week 23.

The result, not helped by the three teams above Laboral Kutxa all winning capped a bad weekend for Velimir Perasovic and his team as Sevilla, paced by 24 points from Ondrej Balvin edge closer to safety.

The Baskonia side are still three games ahead of fifth placed Gran Canaria, despite the Las Palmas side emerging 87-75 victors over UCAM Murcia.

The two sides though still trail the top three of Barcelona, Valencia and Real Madrid, respectively. Barca thrashed Joventut Badalona 89-55 in the Catalan derby thanks to 21 points from an in-form Justin Doellman.

Second placed Valencia were equally as impressive as they dismantled Manresa 83-56 and third place Real Madrid were expecting a battle against an Andorra side that are surprising all in their quest for a Playoff spot, but the current Liga Endesa champions came out 107-78 victors.

Bilbao had the chance to solidify their Playoff credentials, but instead, they rather unexpectedly went down 81-70 to Estudiantes who still remain in the bottom two but are now two games clear of basement side Gipuzkoa, who lost 81-70 to Tenerife.

Andorra, Bilbao and UCAM Murcia’s losses gave Unicaja Malaga the chance to jump into the post-season spots and they did just that by beating Zaragoza 77-69.

Will Thomas posted 13 points to lead Unicaja as they leap into seventh.

The other Liga Endesa clash saw sixth placed Fuenlabrada tighten their grip on a spot in the post-season and boost their chances of a possible place in the top four after they beat Rio Monbus 100-95 in a thriller.

Ivan Paunic went for 27 points, hitting three triples and shooting 58 percent from inside the three-point stripe in the win.
