The Dallas Mavericks are moving forward with Cooper Flagg as their top target in the 2025 NBA Draft.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania and Jonathan Givony, the franchise has scheduled a private visit with Flagg on June 17. The 6-foot-9 forward is not expected to meet with any other teams ahead of the June 25 draft.
Sources told ESPN that Dallas has no plans to evaluate additional prospects for the No. 1 overall pick. The team has made its intentions clear both internally and externally: Flagg is their selection.
Flagg’s visit comes just one week after an official meeting with the Mavericks’ front office. His camp is aligned with Dallas on joining a roster led by veteran stars and aiming to return to playoff contention.
The Mavericks landed the top pick despite a 39-43 record and a 10th-place finish in the Western Conference. They jumped to No. 1 for the first time in franchise history during last week’s draft lottery.
Flagg, an 18-year-old from Maine, is widely projected as the top selection in the 2025 class due to his elite defensive instincts, shooting range, and decision-making. He was a standout at the NBA Draft Combine and has drawn comparisons to versatile two-way forwards at the pro level.
During a recent media session, Flagg emphasized that his focus is on team-oriented basketball and making a defensive impact from day one.
Dallas views the opportunity to add Flagg as a way to immediately upgrade its forward rotation. With Luka Doncic now in Los Angeles, the Mavericks are looking to build around a new core that includes seasoned contributors and emerging young talent.
Behind Flagg, other lottery candidates include Dylan Harper, VJ Edgecombe, Ace Bailey, and Derik Queen. But Dallas has locked in early and will not host additional workouts for any of them.
The San Antonio Spurs hold the second pick, followed by the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, and Utah Jazz.
The first round of the 2025 NBA Draft will take place on June 25, with round two on June 26. The early entry withdrawal deadline is set for June 15.
