Chris Paul opened up about balancing basketball and family life during a recent interview. He shared a moment practicing ball-handling with his daughter, emphasizing the value of those short, meaningful sessions.

“My daughter actually hoops now. So before I flew out here, I was in the gym with her for 20 minutes,” Paul said in conversation with Pat McAfee.

Paul reflected on the fleeting nature of time with kids. “Like, with kids, sometimes you just gotta do short sessions. So I was in 20 minutes, 20 minutes doing ball-handling with her. And it was priceless. You don’t get that time back.”

The San Antonio Spurs point guard made it clear he still loves playing basketball. “But I want to hoop ’cause I love to hoop,” Paul said. However, he also expressed a strong desire to prioritize fatherhood alongside his career. “But at the same time, I do want to be Dad.”

The 40-year-old point guard signed a one-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs in July 2024. This move marked a new chapter as Paul sought playing time rather than chasing a championship. His season featured several milestones, including surpassing 12,000 career assists, joining John Stockton and Jason Kidd in the record books.

In the 2024–25 season, Paul started all 82 games, becoming the first NBA player to do so in his 20th season. He averaged 8.8 points, 7.4 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game.

The Spurs finished the season with a 34-48 record, missing the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year.
