FIBA has officially announced that EuroBasket 2029 will be co-hosted by Spain, Greece, Slovenia, and Estonia, with Madrid confirmed as the site of the Final Phase.
The decision was finalized following a Thursday meeting of the FIBA Europe Board, which reviewed bids from multiple interested countries.
The event will be staged across four cities: Madrid (Spain), Athens (Greece), Ljubljana (Slovenia), and Tallinn (Estonia), continuing the multi-host format introduced in 2015.
Spain, the reigning EuroBasket champion and current world No. 5 in the FIBA rankings, will host the tournament for the first time since 2007.
Greece and Slovenia also bring previous hosting experience, having organized editions of the tournament in the past.
Estonia, ranked 43rd in the world, will host for the first time, marking a significant step in expanding the tournament’s geographical footprint.
FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa emphasized the importance of bringing the competition to nations with strong basketball traditions and infrastructure.
FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak highlighted the quality of the bids and the growing prestige of EuroBasket among national federations.
This will be the fifth straight edition of EuroBasket using the four-host format, which FIBA views as a strategic move to increase reach and fan engagement.
The selected countries will take over hosting duties from Cyprus, Finland, Latvia, and Poland, who are set to organize the 2025 edition later this summer.
Each host will stage one of the four preliminary groups, while Madrid will be the central venue for the knockout stages.
