Anthony Edwards opened up about his Olympic experience with Team USA following their gold medal run at the 2024 Paris Games.
The Minnesota Timberwolves guard, who is currently leading his team in the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, spoke candidly about sharing the court with some of the NBA’s biggest names.
“I was playing alongside my favorite player,” Edwards said, via HoopsHype, referencing Kevin Durant, “and then I was playing alongside two—three of the greatest players.”
He named LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid, Devin Booker, and others as key contributors to the dominant USA roster.
Team USA captured its fifth straight Olympic gold medal with a 98-87 victory over host nation France in the final.
Over six games, Edwards posted averages of 12.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 58% from the field.
Despite coming off the bench, the 23-year-old served as a consistent spark for the national team.
The American squad, nicknamed “the Avengers” due to its veteran star power, swept Group C and remained undefeated throughout the tournament.
In the knockout rounds, the team defeated Brazil, Serbia, and France, with clutch performances from Curry and James.
The 12-man U.S. roster featured four former NBA MVPs—James, Curry, Durant, and Embiid—alongside All-Stars like Jrue Holiday, Bam Adebayo, and Jayson Tatum.
Reflecting on the experience, Edwards emphasized the impact of watching his teammates train.
“Everybody had something they did really good that you couldn’t stop,” he said. “Watching them work out… I ain’t gonna lie, that was fun.”
Stephen Curry led Team USA in scoring with 14.8 points per game, while LeBron James averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists and was named tournament MVP.
Durant added 13.8 points per game on 52% shooting from deep, and Embiid contributed inside with 11.2 points per contest.
Though the spotlight often shone on the elder statesmen, Edwards’ efficient offense and defensive energy played a critical role in the team’s depth.
As the Timberwolves continue their playoff push, the Olympic experience appears to have only elevated Edwards’ confidence and performance.
