Anthony Edwards praises Julius Randle after Timberwolves’ Game 5 win

Anthony Edwards highlighted Julius Randle’s impact following Minnesota’s 121-110 Game 5 victory over Golden State, which advanced the Timberwolves to the Western Conference finals. Edwards emphasized Randle’s ability to create for teammates and control the game’s tempo. “The way he pushes the pace and brings us along with him, even his defense has gone to another level,” Edwards said. “It’s incredible to be his teammate.”

Reflecting on the season, Edwards noted the team’s resilience after last year’s Western Conference Finals loss. “A lot of ups and downs. Just had to stay with it,” he said, crediting the mindset carried through the summer despite limited personal workout time. The sixth seed showed significant improvement to return to this stage.

Rudy Gobert echoed Edwards’ view on team maturity and focus. “It feels good to get to that step, but the stomach is not full. It’s just one step,” Gobert said, stressing the importance of staying level-headed after wins. He also praised Mike Conley’s leadership and veteran presence during the postseason run.

Edwards credited the Timberwolves’ teamwork and defense as keys to overcoming a Warriors squad known for its championship experience. “The most mature team is the team that wins around this time. It’s not about who scores the most points, it’s about coming together and defending at a high level,” Edwards explained.

The guard also discussed his growth in decision-making and shot selection. “R comes up to me every time out and says, ‘You got to read it,’” Edwards said. “I’m analyzing the game, breaking it down before I check back in.” Gobert added that Edwards is learning to balance confidence with smart shot choices.

When asked about any personal history with Warriors stars Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, Edwards stated, “I don’t have no history with those guys. It wasn’t personal. I was just trying to get a win.” Gobert shared a similar sentiment, expressing respect for the competition and focusing on the goal of winning a championship.

Looking ahead to the conference finals, Edwards said he hopes to be more prepared than last year but acknowledged the series has yet to start. Gobert remained focused on staying present and ready for the challenges ahead. “When the opportunity comes, just being ready,” he said.

Minnesota now waits for the Nuggets-Thunder series winner as they aim for their first NBA Finals appearance since 2004. The Timberwolves set franchise playoff records for shooting percentage and assists in Game 5, underscoring their team effort and efficiency.
